Over half of Tennessee teachers say, “Abandon Common Core”

September 25, 2014 1 Comment

A survey of 27,000 teachers in Tennessee follows the national trend of declining support for the Common Core standards. As more teachers are using the standards in the classroom, they are finding that they don’t work. Teachers were asked: Will teaching to Common Core standards improve student learning? Only 39% responded yes, which is down from 60% from last year. According to the survey:

TEACHERS SAY ‘DROP COMMON CORE’

Among 27,000 teachers responding to survey:

56 percent favor abandoning the standards

13 percent want a delay

31 percent say to proceed

A recent Gallup poll also showed declining support at the national level: 76% of Republicans, 60% of Independents, and 38% of Democrats OPPOSE the Common Core. At this point, the question should be asked: Why continue with a program that teachers and parents don’t support?

  1. Nearly everyone who understands common core, opposes it. Left, right and center can all find something to hate in common core. It is a rare, unifying issue that conservatives can use to show the terrible effects of big government IF we can show we are the party of SMALL government and FREEDOM. So far, our Governor (Rick Scott) has shown he’s more interested in controlling us for his campaign benefit and using our kids to play political games. I’m BEYOND disgusted. Why is he “stuck on stupid”? Money and power. Jeb Bush is really in charge here and must be stopped in his campaign for President 2016. He’s using Common Core as his personal piggy bank. They should learn that they need the “consent of the governed” not the governor.
