Hoosiers Against Common Core proudly endorses Marlin Stutzman for Senate!
Hoosiers still deciding between Marlin Stutzman and Todd Young will find a stark difference between their votes on important education legislation. Marlin Stutzman has a consistent record of standing with Hoosier parents and students and supporting policies that reduce federal control over education. Todd Young has chosen to stand with Republican leadership to help cement the education reforms of the Obama Administration into federal law.
Earlier this year, Congress passed the Every Student Achieves Act (ESSA) which replaced a bad federal law (No Child Left Behind) with one much worse. Republican leadership pressured members of Congress to pass the bill and claimed it would get the federal government out of education and end the Common Core. Eager to please the establishment, Young supported the bill despite obvious concerns.
If the bill was going to free schools from federal control, then why did the United States Department of Education (USED) and the Obama Administration endorse it? It doesn’t take a DC insider to know that the Obama Administration and its assorted federal agencies only support legislation that increases their power, not one that takes it away.
If the bill was going to end Common Core, then why did it have the support of every pro-Common Core group in the country? Did Young believe that after five years of forcing Common Core into every facet of education, these groups were suddenly willing to call it quits?
Todd Young’s judgement on ESSA shows that he is either totally naive or willing to sell out Hoosier students to please special interest groups and the Republican establishment. Either way, his vote on ESSA was a huge victory for the Obama Administration. According to Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan, the bill gave them everything they wanted:
Embedded in the law are the values that we’ve promoted and proposed forever. The core of our agenda from Day One, that’s all in there … For the first time in our nation’s history, that’s the letter of the law.
Todd Young joined Republican leadership to pass a bill which cemented Obama’s education reforms into federal law. Marlin Stutzman stood with Hoosier parents and students and voted against it.
If you want your child’s education controlled by federal bureaucrats, vote for Todd Young.
If you want to have a say in your child’s education, vote for Marlin Stutzman.
Everything you say is absolutely correct. Stutzman is being absolutely smeared with attack ads and doesn’t deserve it. He has called out Republican leadership early and often as a Congressman and that’s why they are trying to shaft him. Todd Young’s ads are the usual “I led the fight against this, that and the other.” Isn’t it amazing how everyone running for Congress in every state in the union “led” or is “leading” the “fight”. Conservatives who have been paying attention want to know “What fight is it you’re talking about?” There has been no fight. And especially on Common Core, as HACC and those who are awake know.
I agree wholeheartedly in what you wrote about the two candidates on this issue and many others
Great decision!
